(Two Sessions Express) Member Robin Li: Artificial intelligence ethics will be the cornerstone of the development of the future intelligent society
China News Service, Beijing, March 10 (Xia Shouzhi) Robin Li, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman and CEO of Baidu, said in Beijing on the 10th that artificial intelligence ethics will be the cornerstone of the development of the future intelligent society. Only by establishing a complete ethical code for artificial intelligence and properly handling the new relationship between machines and humans can we gain more dividends from artificial intelligence and allow technology to benefit mankind.
The third plenary session of the second session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference was held on the same day at the Great Hall of the People. Robin Li delivered a speech at the conference.
He mentioned that with the widespread application of artificial intelligence in the fields of food, clothing, housing and transportation, personal identity information and behavioral data may be integrated together. If used improperly, it may lead to privacy and data leakage issues. How to better solve ethics-related issues requires early consideration and planning.
He pointed out that China's artificial intelligence technology research and development and application are in a leading position in the world, but the discussion on artificial intelligence ethics has just started, and it has participated in relatively few international cooperation, and no broad consensus has yet been formed.
To this end, Robin Li put forward three suggestions.
The first is to clarify the ethical principles of artificial intelligence. Coordinate the efforts of all parties, strengthen relevant research, take the better life of the people as the ultimate goal, take into account the innovation and development of the industry, clarify the ethical principles of artificial intelligence in terms of safety, privacy, fairness, etc., and formulate guiding documents on artificial intelligence ethics.
The second is to strengthen the responsibility of leading enterprises and accelerate the implementation of artificial intelligence ethical principles. In hot areas such as information recommendation, autonomous driving, and virtual reality, we will promote corporate leadership and demonstration and implement artificial intelligence ethical principles in product design and business operations.
The third is to strengthen international exchanges, lead industry development, and build global consensus. Actively participate in the research and formulation of global artificial intelligence ethical principles, identify restricted areas early, and absorb and promote the essence of China’s excellent traditional culture such as “people-oriented”.
