How does AI empower and do good? On December 14, the first Artificial Intelligence Philosophy and Ethics Forum was held at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The conference was hosted by the School of Philosophy of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and aimed at accelerating the construction of the "Philosophy and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence" course at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Focusing on "Artificial Intelligence: Empowerment and Goodwill", more than 40 experts and scholars from the fields of philosophy, computer, brain science, robotics, artificial intelligence, public administration, journalism, sociology, law and other fields from 13 universities including Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, and Beijing Normal University gathered together to share their latest results in artificial intelligence research and research on artificial intelligence, and discuss the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence brings to teaching and research.
Professor Zhang Mingxin, Director of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the school, expressed a warm welcome to the experts and scholars on behalf of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He introduced the historical development, strategic positioning, discipline construction layout, and artificial intelligence research in different colleges and disciplines of HuaTech. Zhang Mingxin pointed out that it is of great significance for the School of Philosophy to offer the "Artificial Intelligence Philosophy and Ethics" course at this time; the topics of this conference cover multiple disciplines such as philosophy, journalism and communication, mechanical science, artificial intelligence, and psychology, which are conducive to strengthening collaboration between different disciplines and making contributions to the construction of a more responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence era.
On behalf of the School of Philosophy, Professor Dong Shangwen, Dean of the School of Philosophy, thanked the school leaders and experts and scholars from afar for their support in the construction and development of the "Artificial Intelligence Philosophy and Ethics" course offered by the School of Philosophy. He emphasized that artificial intelligence has penetrated into our lives and is changing our way of life. How to return to the essence of technology and how to constrain artificial intelligence technology itself, designers and products requires us to think deeply about how to embed a consensus ethical value system into artificial intelligence to responsibly manage a series of consequences brought about by technology.

This academic seminar will include two conference reports, one special seminar, and one roundtable discussion. The first conference report was given by Zhu Jing, professor and director of the Department of Philosophy at Xiamen University; Dai Maotang, professor at the International Center for Philosophy at Beijing Normal University and director of the Artificial Intelligence Ethical Governance Laboratory; Li Hengwei, professor, party committee secretary and deputy dean of the School of Philosophy at Zhejiang University; Yan Kunru, professor and dean of the institute, and other experts gave conference reports titled "From Physics to Artificial Intelligence - Controversies and Interpretations Caused by the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics", "Aspects of Artificial Intelligence Discussions", "Singularity Theory, Consciousness and Bioethics" and "Ethical Reflections on Artificial Intelligence Alignment".

At the symposium, She Shuo, professor and deputy dean of the School of Public Administration of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Cai Hengjin, professor of the School of Computer Science of Wuhan University, Ruan Hang, deputy dean and associate professor of the School of Philosophy of Hubei University, Wang Shipeng, professor and director of the Philosophy Department of Huazhong Normal University, and Zeng Xiangrui, professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology respectively spoke with " Cold thinking in the artificial intelligence craze: from the perspective of public management", "free life in the era of super intelligence", "ethical issues in the application of artificial intelligence from the perspective of practical rational dualism", "changes in the concept of human nature from the perspective of artificial intelligence philosophy" and "cognition and decision-making challenges of humanoid robots" were delivered respectively.
At the roundtable seminar, Li Zhi, professor and deputy dean of the School of Philosophy of Wuhan University, Ge Siyou, professor of the School of Philosophy of Wuhan University, Zhu Songfeng, professor and deputy dean of the School of Philosophy of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Liu Zhenyuan, professor of the School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Liu Jin, deputy director of the National College Student Cultural Quality Education Base of Huazhong University of Science and Technology Imitation, Chen Mingyi, associate professor of the School of Marxism at Wuhan University of Technology, and other experts and scholars conducted in-depth discussions on the empowerment and challenges of artificial intelligence in higher education teaching, put forward valuable opinions and suggestions on the construction of the "Artificial Intelligence Philosophy and Ethics" course, and shared new ideas for the construction and development of the philosophy discipline in the new era of artificial intelligence.
The second conference report was given by Bao Aimin, professor of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, executive deputy director of the National Human Brain Tissue Resource Bank in Health and Disease, and secretary-general of the International Neuroendocrine Federation; Pan Enrong, professor of the Department of Philosophy of Sun Yat-sen University (Zhuhai); Wen Xianqing, professor of the Department of Philosophy of Hunan Normal University and vice president of the Institute of Moral Culture; and Assistant to the Department of Philosophy of Tsinghua University Zhang Weite, professor and deputy dean of Xinya College, delivered conference reports titled "Developing Artificial Brains with the Brain of Creation", "Philosophy of Physics: The Challenge of Generative Artificial Intelligence to Enlightenment", "Ethical Examination of Artificial Intelligence - From a Technical Perspective", and "The "I think, therefore I am" test at the level of artificial intelligence: an optimized idea of the Turing test".
