Today's focus

On September 8, 2018, the fourth meeting of the Sixth Scientific Ethics Construction Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences approved the establishment of the "Artificial Intelligence Ethics Research" project launch meeting and the Artificial Intelligence Ethics, Policy and Law Forum were held at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The project leader, Tan Tieniu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a researcher at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, served as the executive chairman of the conference, and Zhang Zhaoxiang, a researcher at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, served as the academic secretary. This project kick-off meeting and forum was hosted by the Scientific Ethics Construction Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and hosted by the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Su Ronghui, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered an opening speech at the launch meeting, and Academician Tan Tieniu introduced the "Artificial Intelligence Ethics Research" project. During the forum, Cheng Sumei, a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Hu Jian, a researcher at the Soft Power Research Center of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Guo Rui, an associate professor at the Law School of Renmin University of China, gave special lectures. More than 20 project backbones attended the project launch meeting, and more than 300 experts and scholars from more than 190 universities, research institutions, and enterprises participated in the discussion forum.

Academician Tan Tieniu delivered the opening speech of the "Artificial Intelligence Ethics Research Project Launch Meeting and Artificial Intelligence Ethics, Policy and Law Forum"

Research on ethics and risk management in the field of artificial intelligence in my country is not suitable for the stage of technological development.

Academician Tan Tieniu introduced the background and significance of the project, research goals and content, research basis and support, research progress and plan. It is emphasized that compared with developed countries in science and technology, my country still lags behind the international level in research on ethical issues and risk management in the field of artificial intelligence. This lagging situation is not compatible with the current development stage of my country's artificial intelligence technology, and may become a major constraint to the development of my country's artificial intelligence technology.

As a consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Research Project will mainly study the impact of artificial intelligence on future society, sort out the ethical issues that may arise from artificial intelligence, explore the communication mechanism for ethical issues in artificial intelligence, and put forward suggestions for dealing with ethical issues in artificial intelligence.

An in-depth review of the ethical issues that may arise from artificial intelligence

In order to thoroughly sort out the ethical issues that may arise from artificial intelligence, the "Artificial Intelligence Ethics, Policy and Law Forum" was held at this kick-off meeting, chaired by Xu Bo, Director of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Researcher Cheng Sumei gave a report on "Ten Philosophical Challenges in an Intelligent Society", analyzing from a philosophical perspective the challenges of artificial intelligence to concepts, ways of thinking, legal ethics and society, life management, body concepts, self-concept, labor and leisure concepts, technology concepts, epistemology and responsibility concepts.

Researcher Hu Jian wrote "Artificial Intelligence and Society", discussing four questions: Who am I? Who is AI; what can I do? What can AI do? What is my relationship with AI? Do I control the robot, or does artificial intelligence control me? How do we coordinate the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence?

At the same time, the forum held a special seminar on "The Impact of the Development of Artificial Intelligence on Future Society", aiming to more comprehensively and systematically sort out the ethical issues brought about by my country's artificial intelligence technology and reveal the causes of the problems.

The seminar was hosted by Zhang Zhaoxiang, a researcher at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and invited experts from natural sciences and humanities and social sciences to serve as forum guests, including Li Zhenzhen, a researcher at the Institute of Science and Technology Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Cheng Sumei, a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Hu Jian, a researcher at the Soft Power Research Center of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Huang Tiejun, a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Peking University, Wang Guoyu, a professor at the School of Philosophy at Fudan University, Wu Fei at the School of Computer Science at Zhejiang University, and Guo Rui, an associate professor at the School of Law at Renmin University of China.

The seminar discussed the pros and cons of artificial intelligence on current human society; will the future of artificial intelligence be general or specialized? Can general artificial intelligence be realized? How to determine the responsibility of artificial intelligence? How to ensure the healthy development of artificial intelligence? Should robots have rights? How does my country regulate the development of artificial intelligence at the government and legal levels?

As artificial intelligence has become a national strategy, conducting ethical research on artificial intelligence has far-reaching strategic significance for the healthy and sustainable development of artificial intelligence and the future of artificial intelligence in our country.

: It is a process of finding motion vectors between images. The so-called motion vector can be understood as a transformation from image A to image B. Motion vectors can refer to the entire image (global motion estimation) or to a specific part of the image, such as a rectangular area, an arbitrarily shaped area or even a single pixel.
