This Forum Of East China Normal University Proposes Global Challenges And Chinese Solutions To AI Ethics
The forum "Innovative Development of Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Leadership, Governance Empowerment" was held recently. The forum is co-organized by the Department of Philosophy, School of Software Engineering, Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, Department of Science and Technology, and Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of East China Normal University.

The forum is co-organized by the Department of Philosophy, School of Software Engineering, Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, Department of Science and Technology, and Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of East China Normal University.
Meng Zhongjie, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of East China Normal University, said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the forum that the school has always adhered to the value of humanities sharing, actively leveraged the advantages of Sino-French international cooperation and AI ethical governance research, and strived to build a sustainable and good AI governance framework. Laurent Kuniyon, vice president of the University of Côte d'Azur, shared the interactive cases of French universities in cutting-edge AI technology and ethical security, praising the unique role of international cooperation in global artificial intelligence governance. Pan Han, chief strategy officer of the international data cooperation business of the Lingang New Area of the China (Shanghai) Free Trade Zone, said that as a highland of AI innovation, Lingang will actively promote school-enterprise dialogue and international dialogue, and promote the integration of ethics and technology. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhu Cheng, director of the Department of Philosophy of East China Normal University.
Zhang Rongnan, professor of the Department of Philosophy at East China Normal University, and Li Hui, researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Science, jointly released and interpreted the "Global Artificial Intelligence Governance Annual Observation 2025". The report was jointly written by the interdisciplinary teams of the two units, examining AI ethical concepts and governance dynamics from a global perspective. Against the backdrop of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France in 2024, East China Normal University launched the "China-France Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Governance Joint Research Project". In order to deepen international cooperation in research on the topic, the school invited many top French scholars to join the overseas expert committee. At this forum, Meng Zhongjie presented overseas expert appointment letters to six French experts. Kuai Shuguang, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of East China Normal University, presided over the results release and awarding ceremony.
In his keynote speech entitled "The core mission of education is to cultivate the virtues of learning: Opportunities and challenges brought by AI", Tong Shijun, President of New York University in Shanghai, emphasized that the AI era needs to ensure that machine learning assists rather than replaces human learning.
Sophie Archad, director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence at the University of Grenoble, France, discussed the application of graph theory in AI and how it can help extract hidden biases and injustice, and proposed to promote ethical governance.
Sun Weiping, "Weichang Scholar" of Shanghai University and director of the Institute of Intelligent Philosophy, explained the "ethical risks of intelligent governance" from the perspective of interpersonal relationships.
Professor Jean-Michel Wyer, a Higher Normal School in Lyon, France, proposed the "Philosophical Agenda of AI Ethics" and explained the core elements of the philosophical proposal.
The roundtable dialogue focuses on the theme of "Innovation and Security of Artificial Intelligence from the perspective of China and France". Eight experts held a confrontation of views under the auspices of Yu Zhenhua, a professor of the Department of Philosophy of East China Normal University, and agreed that establishing a broad consensus AI governance framework and rules is the direction of future cooperation.
11 Chinese and foreign experts also shared the latest research progress at the forum, covering multi-dimensional issues of AI ethics and governance, including semantics perspective, consequential threats, intelligent governance risks, social robot responsibilities, algorithm value sensitivity, digital identity, and tacit knowledge of scientific intelligence.
